Saturday 29th September – Slough Jets Programme

Welcome to the “Battle Of The Champions” as the Jets take on the Guildford Flames. These games are always massive fixtures on the calendar, the Flames are always high class opposition, they always travel well supported and the two teams always provide the fans with a great night’s hockey when they clash.

Games like these against the big opposition are what make the season. Two high quality teams on the ice, added intensity in the air and two sets of loud, proud fans clapping, drumming, cheering, dancing and blowing their horns. And it shows the greatness of the sport we love as the despite the rivalry on the ice, and the two fans supporting their teams passionately all through the night everyone can all come together after the game and enjoy each other’s company.

The Jets have had a great start to the season, they’ve played three games and won three games. Likewise the Flames have a 100% record for the season but one of the teams, the only two still with them, will lose that 100% tonight. I see no reason it should be the Jets, likewise the Flames fans will see no reason for it to be their team and the good thing is in a game like this nobody will know until the final hooter sounds.

Three weekends into the season and we haven’t as yet had a normal Saturday and Sunday weekend. We’ve played a one game weekend, a Friday and Saturday weekend, this weekend is another one game weekend and next weekend will be our first “normal” weekend with a home game Saturday and a road game Sunday. We will obviously catch up these days off later in the season and that means we have a few midweek fixtures later on in the year.

Commercially the Jets are doing ok this season. Pleasing to see that all the players are now sponsored for the year, Tommo is doing a great job attracting sponsorship to the sponsor grids both adult and junior and the 50/50 prizes haven’t been too bad this season either. That said there is still room for more people at the Hangar so let’s keep inviting friends and family to the games, both in person and on our Facebook events or re-tweeting Twitter updates.

Let’s get down to business tonight, 60 minutes of action ahead and good luck to everyone taking part in Chuck The Duck, 50/50 and Shirt Off His Back.

My team, your team, OUR TEAM.
