Saturday 6th October – Slough Jets Programme Notes

Good evening and welcome to the Hangar for tonight’s match. It’s month two of the season and that kicks off with a visit from the Peterborough Phantoms tonight.

The Phantoms come into tonight’s game with 3 points from their 4 games and the Jets come in off another single game weekend meaning despite the Phantoms starting the season a week after everyone else (except MK) we’ve played the same number of games.

512 was the biggest attendance of the season so far last weekend and let’s hope it’s a sign of things to come. Seeing the attendance on the way up is a great thing and let’s hope that it continues to grow. As I’ve said we can all do our bit to help by spreading the word. There’s also a supply of the Jets posters that you can have if you have somewhere to display them like a work notice board, school notice board, shop window or even in your car window (as long as it doesn’t provide a distraction to your driving!)

Being a minority sport ice hockey will always struggle to attract the main stream sporting attention, from the media, the local radio and indeed the television. We are lucky in that the local papers are good and generous with their coverage. We are unfortunate in that we fall in the “London” region for TV so getting any form of coverage on the television is tricky as we are not in London nor are we a majority sport. Those are the limitations that we have to work within which makes it difficult to tell the extended population of Slough and surrounds who we are, what we are and where we are. That’s where we need your help, if we all tell our friends, family and colleagues and encourage them to a game that’s a massive help and the team on the ice will put on the show on the ice that will hopefully have them coming back week after week.

It’s great being play-off champions, but it would be even better to be play off champions playing to a sell out arena every week. Let’s work together and try to make that happen.

Enjoy tonight’s game.

My team, your team, OUR TEAM.
