After what was a very tough week the Slough Jets faced another tough weekend. Andre Payette and the Steeldogs on Saturday and Nick Poole and the Lightning on Sunday were never going to be easy asks. The Steeldogs win was clinical and purposeful, 2 points won in a business like manner. Sunday was a great game in terms of entertainment with 2 teams scrapping for a win right to the end.
I said after the game on Facebook and Twitter that I believed the better team didn’t win. Stephen Wall was responsible for the Lightning win as the Jets dominated the 3rd period and had it not been for Wall would have probably run out 5-2 winners. Instead Wall shut down the Jets and a cruel deflection saw the Jets down a man in the final few minutes and against the run of play MK snatched the game winner. A disappointing night in terms of points but a promising night in terms of team spirit, team unity and performance.
There was also a nice salute to Ryan with “U Watt” chants in the 49th minute of the game. Ryan will rightly so always remain a fan favourite with the majority of the Jets fans but it was nice to see the proposed boycott was avoided and a good crowd in to the support the Jets last weekend.
We’re back to Saturday night hockey this weekend so hopefully there will be a good turn out tonight from the Hangar faithful to support the mighty Jets in their quest to down the Phantoms.
Enjoy tonight’s game Mark
