Today would have been the 36th birthday of Aaliyah Dana Haughton, known professionally as Aaliyah.
She was credited as changing modern R&B, nicknamed “The Princess of R&B” and “Queen Of Urban Pop”. Her career started at the age of 10 when she appeared on the TV show Star Search. She signed her first record deal at the age of 12. She released three albums, Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number (1994), One in a Million (1996) and Aaliyah (2001).
She died on August 25th 2001 in a plane crash. She had been in the Bahamas filming the video for “Rock The Boat” and when filming had finished a day early had arranged an flight home.
