November 12th – Slough Jets Programme

Welcome to the Hangar as we return back to our traditional home game day and tonight we take on the Peterborough Phantoms.

So last weekend the winning streak came to an end and to be fair it always was going to. There’s no way any team will win every single game and a run of seven successive wins is something to be proud of in any sport. Some people are looking for excuses but it’s a fact of life, teams won’t will every single game and there isn’t always a sinister reason behind that fact.

Speaking of sinister reasons what about the three convicted Pakistani cheats following last year’s spot fixing scandal? To have players in any sport corrupt and willing to destroy their integrity and that of their sport is totally unacceptable and I personally think the punishment they have received is lenient in terms of their prison sentence and their ICC bans.

I am not saying that Ice Hockey is open to corruption in the same fashion, indeed as a minority sport in the UK I think ice hockey would be very low on the sports which someone would be looking to fix but I hope the punishments deter sportsman and outsiders from attempting to fix any part of any sport so the supporters and spectators at all sporting events won’t be questioning the integrity of what they see.

So now that we’re approaching the middle of November it won’t be long until we’re into the swing of the party season as Christmas and New Year approaches. There’s some big games coming up in the run in, including the first visit of the Bison this season which added to tonight’s visit of the Phantoms means we’ll have seen all of the times at the Hangar this season. Our last home game before Christmas is Saturday 17th December against the Manchester Phoenix so that’s something to think about if you’d like to order Jets merchandise for anyone for a Christmas present.

Don’t forget that we start 2012 just 18½ hours into the year with a New Year’s Day game against the Swindon Wildcats as well so make sure you get the dates down in your diary.

Down to business tonight and let’s get loudly and proudly behind the Jets for the whole upcoming 60 minutes.

Enjoy the game
