This time around we take a look at using compression while producing a commercial.
I am proposing two light compressors rather than just one compressor. First, when creating the commercial in the multi-track apply light compression to the voice to level it out and then set about mixing the commercial.
Once you’ve mixed down the commercial apply mastering to finalise the production. I wouldn’t recommend adding exciter or reverb at the final mixdown stage as anything applied will affect the music and the voice.
As with radio imaging, do not over compress the commercial!
