Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th February 2012 – Slough Jets Programme

Welcome to The Big Weekend of Hockey here at the Hangar as the Jets take on the Flames and Bison. It’s nice to have two big teams for our home weekend too as both teams provide good entertainment on the ice and both travel in good numbers so everything points to a great weekend of hockey.

The league race is now wide open. Think back a couple of weeks to MK’s billing of their clash against Guildford as a league decider and look at the table now to see how quick things can change. MK have dropped back to 5th but there’s just 9 points between 1st and 6th (at the time of writing – Tuesday) which shows just how close this league is. You’d be naive to think you could pick a winner out at this point of the season but the one thing for certain is that every game involving those top six teams during the run in is a potential title decider.

For the Jets this is a crucial weekend. We have three games (including this weekend) left against the Flames and that’s a six point swing over the league leaders, which with the game in hand, would mean we’d take the lead if we won them all. The last part of that sentence is obviously massive but it shows just how important every game is going to be between now and the end of the regular season.

Hopefully for these two games we’ll have good attendances but as always the crucial game updates will be available on Twitter as they happen for anyone unable to make the game. With Twitter becoming such a phenomenon, and a marketing tool used by all the clubs, the game updates are a fantastic way to keep up on games that you can’t get to. For Slough, we tweet goal, period end and final score updates. Some clubs tweet penalties, some tweet play by play. Whatever it’s good that people can catch up on games they can’t get to, especially since THF only allows for period end updates. The one thing I was surprised to see was the personal opinion describing a goal celebration on Sunday on a club twitter. Obviously twitter is updated by an individual at every club but in my view personal opinions should be left for personal twitters and club twitters should be the place for game facts.

The importance of this weekend cannot be underestimated for the Jets and this is very much a weekend I’ve been looking forward to since the fixtures were finalised.

Enjoy the games
